Excavation

Third Step

Foundation Wall Preparation:

  • Clean the Wall: Thoroughly clean the exposed foundation wall to remove dirt, debris, and loose material.

  • Repair Damage: Repair any cracks, spalling, or other damage to the foundation wall using appropriate patching materials.

  • Seal Joints: Seal any joints, including mortar joints, to prevent water penetration.

Final

Waterproofing Membrane Application:

  • Choose a Membrane:

Select a waterproof membrane (liquid-applied, sheet membrane, etc.) suitable for your foundation and climate.

  • Apply the Membrane:

Apply the membrane according to the manufacturer's instructions, ensuring complete coverage.

  • Seal Edges and Corners:

Pay close attention to sealing edges and corners to prevent water from seeping through.

Assess and Prepare:

  • Identify Water Source: Determine the source of water intrusion (e.g., cracks, poor drainage).

  • Clear the Area: Remove any landscaping, structures, or obstructions around the foundation to allow for excavation.

  • Evaluate Foundation Type: Understand the construction of your foundation (concrete, brick, etc.) to tailor the waterproofing approach.

First Step

Excavating for waterproofing involves exposing the foundation wall by digging a trench around the perimeter, cleaning and repairing the wall, applying a waterproof membrane, and installing a drainage system. This is followed by backfilling with gravel and soil, ensuring proper drainage away from the foundation.

Second Step

Excavation:

  • Dig Trench:

Excavate a trench around the foundation, extending down to the footing (the base of the foundation).

  • Depth and Width:

The trench should be wide enough to comfortably work on the wall and deep enough to expose the entire foundation wall.

❊ FAQs

You’ve got questions,
we’ve got answers

  • This is the most common question we get, and the honest answer is: it varies. The cost depends entirely on the specific problem, the size of the affected area, and the solution required. A simple crack repair will cost less than a full interior drainage system. That's why we offer a 100% free, on-site inspection. Our specialist will diagnose the root cause of your water problem and provide you with a detailed, written estimate—with no obligation and no high-pressure sales tactics.

  • This is a major concern for many homeowners, and we take it very seriously. While waterproofing is a construction trade, our crews are trained professionals who treat your home with respect. We use dust-minimizing equipment, protect your belongings and flooring in the work area, and perform a thorough cleanup at the end of each day. Our goal is to solve your water problem with as little disruption to your life as possible.

  • Most of our projects, including interior drain systems, are completed in just 1 to 3 days. Simpler repairs can often be done in a single day. When we provide your estimate, we will also give you a clear timeline for your specific project.

  • Yes, it is. What starts as "a little dampness" is often a sign of a bigger issue. Here in North Carolina, our clay soil and heavy rains put constant hydrostatic pressure on foundations. That moisture can:

    • Weaken your home's foundation over time.

    • Create the perfect breeding ground for mold and mildew, which can cause that musty smell and negatively affect your family's health.

    • Attract pests like termites and rodents who thrive in damp environments.

    • Decrease your home's property value. Addressing the issue now is the smartest way to prevent bigger, more expensive problems down the road.

  • That distinct "musty" odor is caused by mold and mildew growth. For many people, exposure to mold spores can trigger allergic reactions, asthma attacks, and other respiratory issues. By waterproofing your basement or crawl space, you eliminate the moisture that mold needs to survive, creating a healthier living environment for your family.

  • Our reputation is built on providing permanent solutions, not temporary fixes. We use industry-leading materials and proven methods installed by our highly trained, in-house technicians (never subcontractors).
